With summer in full swing, it is the perfect time to head outdoors and enjoy the weather. However, it is important to remember that overexposure to the sun’s (ultraviolet) UV rays can cause damage to the skin and different types of skin cancer. Here are several ways to protect oneself while still having fun in the sun.
1. Stay in the shade: Try to avoid direct sunlight between 10am and 4pm when UV light is the strongest.
2. Wear clothes to cover your skin: Long-sleeved shirts or long pants will protect your skin from being over-exposed to UV rays.
3. Wear a wide brim hat and sunglasses: A hat with a 2- or 3-inch brim to cover the head and ears is best, while sunglasses protect your eyes and the tender skin around them as well.
4. Wear sunscreen: Choose products with broad spectrum protection (against both UVA and UVB rays) and a sun protection factor (SPF) of 30 or higher. Remember to reapply at least every 2 hours or more frequently if sweating or swimming.
5. Avoid tanning beds: Tanning beds can cause just as much long-term skin damage as sun exposure. It is best to avoid them to reduce the risk of skin cancers. Source
Unlike most insulin pumps and pump supplies that are covered under DME, consultants should be aware that almost all Omnipod products are currently processed through the pharmacy benefit. Coverage will vary among payors, but plan sponsors should be aware of channel coverage to avoid potential access concerns for their participants. Estimated total costs for the Omnipod 5 Intro Kit and 90-day supply of Omnipod 5 Pods are $500 and $1,750, respectively. Click here to read more.
Sildenafil Recognized as Candidate for Alzheimer’s
A recent study led by researchers at the Cleveland Clinic showed that through a 6-year analysis of more than 7 million patients, Sildenafil, a therapy for erectile dysfunction and pulmonary hypertension, show promising results to help prevent and treat Alzheimer’s Disease. It was found that Sildenafil users were 69% less likely to develop Alzheimer’s Disease than non-Sildenafil users.
Team Community Involvement
RxConnection’s Clinical Services Manager, Richard Lo, and his family volunteered at The Salvation Army’s Kids’ Day Camp.
There, they helped the kids with arts and crafts, played card games and sports, and learned some new dance moves. A fun, rewarding day for all!
